The Crown and Anchor is located 1½ miles inside the perimeter on Roswell Road, set on the east side of the road in The Belle Isles Center. As you walk in, you feel that you have been transported to a small country pub in the Cotswolds, with antique chairs and mismatched tables. The ceiling has been excavated to display the old beams and all the door frames have been uncovered to show the age of the old pub! Many a pint has been washed down here. The backbar has an unusual antique altar that we have adapted to use and the bar is wrapped in aged copper. as is the front door. This little English pub is rapidly becoming a popular waterhole for people I.T.P. (inside the perimeter), so stop by and enjoy lunch, brunch, or dinner with a pint and contemplate... WHAT IS AN ENGLISH PUB? A pub is a state of mind, and that alone sets it apart from any other drinking or eating establishment. It is a place where relaxation, stimulation, and conversation are the order of the day. In their "local," as the English refer to them, a sense of being "at home" is very much in evidence, and it is the publican's job to ensure the maintenance of that atmosphere. Informality is rampant and many a stout Englishman has fallen to the lure of his local, most notably when walking his dog. The urge to "dive in for a swift pint" has challenged and defeated the hardiest of souls. Nikolas Pevsner said, "The function of the pub is company, human nearness, ... snugness not smugness." Welcome to our pub. You should be a stranger here but once. We hope that you will enjoy our local. |
